Travertine is a sedimentary rock formed through the bonding and build up of calcite in hot springs. Holes are evident in Travertine as it is formed with water flowing through it. These holes can be filled with resins, however, Travertine is very popular with the holes, as it appears to have a rustic and antique look. This stone is referred to as filled or unfilled, honed (matt finish) or polished. Travertine must be sealed. Travertine is suitable for vanity bench tops, fireplace surrounds and tabletops. We strongly recommend against using Travertine for kitchen bench tops.
